Heading to or through Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport soon?

Here at Stuck at the Airport, we are all about cool amenities and shops and restaurants that reflect the local community.

So, we’re curious to check out the newest addition at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport: The Cocktail Room at 18th and Central in Terminal 1 Concourse A.

A collaboration between HMSHost Tattersall Distilling, The Cocktail Room at 18th and Central shows off the craft distilling movement in Minnesota and beyond.

The new bar gets its name from Tattersall Distilling’s location in Northeast Minneapolis, and one of its most popular drinks.

Tattersall Distilling is a nationally acclaimed Minneapolis-based craft distiller, which makes organic vodka, straight rye whiskey, apple brandy, aquavit, gin and an extensive portfolio of liqueurs, all with an emphasis on using local ingredients and sustainable practices.

In addition to the unique drink options and specialty cocktails on the menu created for the MSP venue, many of the bar bites and plates are made from locally sourced ingredients.

Signature items menu items include smoked salmon, lemon pepper wings, house-made onion dip, and chicken bacon flatbread. 

There’s also house popcorn, so we’re totally there.

You may have heard about some of the conspiracy theories surrounding Denver International Airport (DEN).

DEN officials acknowledge that ever since the airport was built, there have been rumors of underground tunnels leading to secret meeting facilities for the world’s elite, a curse connected to the airport’s blue horse sculpture and an in-house colony of lizard people.

There’s also been talk of the airport’s connection to the Illuminati, a secret organization said to be controlling world events.

Whether you believe the stories or not, you can now order a booze-filled Illuminati Shake at the new branch of Little Man Ice Cream at Denver International Airport on Concourse C.

Denver-based Little Man is known for home-made ice cream, sorbet, vegan flavors and their iconic ice cream “Sammie’s.”

The new airport location offers several boozy options, such as Strawberry Margarita Freeze, Whiskey Apple Pie and Oreo Java Spiced Rum.

As a nod to DEN conspiracy theories, Little Man has created the Illuminati Shake for the airport menu.

It’s made with vanilla ice-cream, Absinthe and Maraschino.

Even better – DEN’s Little Man hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.  

So you can order that Illuminati shake for breakfast.

Because one “conspiracy theory” about airports is true: you can eat anything you want in an airport at any time.

Airport Restaurant Month

60 airport restaurants participating

October is Airport Restaurant Month at more than 60 HMSHost restaurants in more than 40 airports around the country.

And this year there’s a fun contest on the menu.

Airport Restaurant Month features tasting menus much like those you’ll find in many cities this time year: diners can select from three appetizers and a variety of entrees.

Menus may vary slightly by restaurant, but some of the core Airport Restaurant Month dishes include: 

·      Orecchiette Pasta featuring sautéed super-food greens, parmesan, and buttered herb breadcrumbs

·      Shrimp Scampi Flatbread with garlic shrimp, grape tomatoes, mozzarella, lemon zest, and red pepper flakes

·      Harissa Burger topped with arugula, pickled red onions, harissa aioli, provolone cheese, and smoked bacon

·      Crispy Chicken Sandwich with crunchy Asian slaw, gochujang BBQ sauce, and pickle chips

Now here’s the contest part, which runs through October 31, 2019:

When you eat at one of the participating HMSHost restaurants, ask for an Airport Restaurant Month Passport.

Collect a passport stamp for each Airport Restaurant Dish you purchase.

When you have four stamps, snap a photo of the completed passport and post the image to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #airportrestaurantmonth. Be sure to also tag @HMSHost.

Celebrating the Apollo 11 Moon Landing anniversary

Straight to the Moon – well, Houston.

This week pretty much everyone is celebrating and commemorating the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 launch and the first manned mission to land on the Moon.

And today, July 17 -the same day Astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin Buzz Aldrin made their first TV transmission from Earth to space – United Airlines is hosting a special celebration flight from Newark Liberty International (EWR) airport to Houston’s Georg Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH).

Why fly to Houston now?

Houston is also known as “Space City”  because it is home to NASA’s Mission Control Center at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center.

StuckatTheAirport.com is going along on Flight 355. We’re promised space-themed entertainment, inflight gifts (yay!) and “special onboard guests who have first-hand experience in space.”

We think that means astronauts will on board…

Once we land in Houston, we’ll join Space Center Houston’s Apollo Anniversary Celebration and get to tour the Apollo Mission Control Center, among other activities.

We’ll also try to taste some of the special cocktails and menu items being served this month at two OTG restaurants at IAH that were inspired by meals the astronauts ate during the Apollo 11 mission.

But the special “Eat Like an Astronaut” dishes on the menu at Ember Tavern and Tanglewood Grille in United Airlines’ Terminal C and E at IAH look far more appetizing:

Free chowder at SEA airport

Monday, February 25, 2019 is National Chowder Day. To celebrate, the Pacific Northwest restaurant chain, Anthony’s, is giving away a free cup of chowder with each entree purchase.

One place to take advantage of this offer is at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, which has an Anthony’s restaurant in the central terminal area overlooking the airfield.

The restaurant has been one of highest grossing and most popular dining spots at SEA airport for years, but the restaurant is closing at the end of March as part of the airport’s refresh of airport dining venues.

So, beyond the lure of free chowder on National Chowder Day, if you’re passing through SEA airport on Monday, February 25, 2019, this is a good time to stop in an enjoy a meal with a view at the airport Anthony’s.
