This week LinkedIn introduced “Jet: The Business Traveler Network,” which includes a running, curated, feed of news articles from around the web.

Sometime it really pays to go out for to eat South American cuisine

LAN TICKETS

Leave to LAN Airlines to knock people’s socks off. On Wednesday representatives from the airline showed up at Bocanova Restaurant in Oakland and gave everyone in the restaurant – 200 people – tickets to South America! Last year, the airline did the same thing for a restaurant full of people in New York City.

Jealous? The airline is also giving away tickets to South America to people who don’t eat out in Oakland or New York but are on-line. As part of its “Only in South America” campaign, the airline is giving away tickets daily from January 25-30 on www.facebook.com/LANAirlinesUSA.

Finally – a ride on a 787 Dreamliner

Happy New Year, everyone. Here’s a toast to a happy, healthy and productive new year.

Last year I was hard at work on a book (about things museums have but don’t show you) and had to decline numerous opportunities to fly on the 787 Dreamliner. I had to be content with just a few on-the-ground tours, but on Wednesday I’m pleased and excited to be booked as a guest on the LAN Airlines’ first fight of a 787 Dreamliner from Los Angeles to Santiago, Chile.

787 Dreamliner

The have been many 787 “firsts” and LAN, which was the first airline in the Americas to receive a 787, now boasts that it is the first carrier to offer international service on the 787 Dreamliner at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The LAN 787 will operate nonstop service from Los Angeles to Santiago, Chile three days per week on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday with daily flights to Lima, Peru with continuing service to Santiago beginning in February.

My bags – and my camera – are packed, so check back for more 787, LAX and Santiago news over the next few days.

Prize patrol: Win plane tickets to South America

Thursday evening LAN airlines kicked off a campaign to promote its South American destinations in a really fun way: it surprised about 200 people dining at Nuela restaurant in New York City  with vouchers for free roundtrip tickets to destinations in Ecuador, Peru, Chile, or Argentina.

Lucky them!

And, maybe, lucky you.

Through October 31, the airline will be giving away more tickets to South America via a Twitter contest.
