Alaska Airlines’ new ‘Mickey’s Toontown’-themed plane

Sure, it’s essentially an ad. But Alaska Airlines’ new Mickey’s Toontown Express livery is charming. And will be fun to spot landing or taking off at an airport near you.

The plane, a Boeing 737-800, with tail number 565AS, has fun images of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, along with their friends Goofy, Pluto, Donald Duck, and Daisy Duck in Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland Park.

It’s Alaska Airlines’ eighth livery in collaboration with Disneyland Resort and took artists over 400 hours and 20 days to hand-paint the brightly colored aircraft exterior from nose to tail.

United Airlines contest seeks women-made art

In honor of Women’s History Month – and just because it’s a cool thing to do – United Airlines is hosting a contest that has as its prize an invite to paint an airplane.

United Airlines’ Her Art Here contest is designed to find and uplift underrepresented female artists, the carrier says, and will choose two female artists to visually represent either New York / New Jersey or California (key regions for United).

The winning artists will work renowned artist Shantell Martin to design the exterior of a United Boeing 757.

That’s pretty great exposure for the artists’ work.

Want to enter? Here’s the link to get you to the page for more information in United’s Her Art Here contest.

Entries can be from anyone who identifies as a woman who lives in the United States. Each entry must visually represent New York/New Jersey or California and all entries will be reviewed by a panel of experts, who will chose six finalists, three from each region.

The public will then be invited to vote on the submissions and there will be two grand prizes; one for each region.

Finalists and winners will also receive their own open gallery show, 100,000 United MileagePlus award miles and have their artwork on display in United Club locations and United Polaris lounges.

Deadline to enter is March 24, 2019. Good luck!

Batman vs. Superman airport souvenirs

Hudson batman supeman shirt

If you’ve been anxiously awaiting “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” – set to appear in movie theaters March 26, 2016 – then you may be in the market for something to wear to the show.

If you’re traveling, you may not have time to shop for just the right thing to wear (a cape?, pointy bat ears?) to the theater, but Hudson stores at airports have you covered.

At eleven major airports – including LAX, Miami International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, Omaha Airport, Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, Chicago Midway International Airport, Lambert–St. Louis International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Burbank Bob Hope Airport, Nashville International Airport, and Boston Logan – Hudson shops will be offering two, exclusive, movie-themed t-shirts.

And it looks like you can choose your super hero.

The t-shirts would be the perfect thing to wear on the special Turkish Airlines plane that has a Batman v Superman livery and Batman v Superman amenity kits.

Move over Hello Kitty, R2-D2 is coming to the skies.

All Nippon Airways (ANA) announced that the adorable rolling Star Wars robot character will be painted on a new 787-9 Dreamliner as part of a five year agreement with the Walt Disney Company. You’ll need to wait until next fall to see the livery flying on international flights, but here’s a short video of what it should look like.

Can’t wait for Star Wars: The Force Awakens to hit the theaters? There’s a preview here.
