Souvenir evidence of aliens at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas

Here at Stuck at The Airport, we’re big fans of the fun, locally-themed souvenirs that are for sale in many airport souvenir shops.

We know there are alot of people who collect shot glass or key chains as a souvenir from the places they visit. But we’re especially fond of the bit more creative, locally-themed chocolate candy “poop” that is for sale in these shops.

We know these items are great gift items and big sellers, but we suspect a lot of these candy food gifts never get eaten.

(Although in my house, they’d be categorized as ’emergency’ food..)

Examples in our ‘souvenir poop’ collection include everything from Big Foot Poop found at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to the Koala Poo spotted in at the airport in Sydney, Australia.

Now we have one more packet to add to the collection.

At McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas this week, we found some Alien Poop mints in the Area 51 section of a souvenir shop.

Silly? Yes, of course. But when you are Stuck at the Airport, entertainment comes in many forms.

Please be on the lookout for fun, inexpensive, locally-themed souvenirs in airport gift shops and send us a photo. If your snap is featured here during Souvenir Sunday, we’ll send you a fun travel-themed souvenir.

Souvenir Sunday at Space Center Houston

Stuck at the Airport has been in Houston this week taking part in the citywide celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing and the first time humans walked on the Moon.

While here, we visited Space Center Houston, the science and space exploration center where the public gets a chance to see (and touch!) Moon rocks and learn first hand about what it takes to go into – and come back from – space.

There’s also a great gift shop. And for Souvenir Sunday, we’re sharing some of the fun gifts we’re taking home.

Moon rocks

Thanks for joining us this week while we celebrated the anniversary of the Apollo 11 Lunar Mission.

Shop for the moon at an airport near you

It’s Souvenir Sunday here on Stuck at The Airport and it’s big week for space buffs as celebrations get underway to mark the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing.

Airport and airport shops are celebrating as well.

OpenBook at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and Book People at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) sent along some snaps of the space-themed books and gifts that have been flying off their shelves.

Souvenir Sunday needs your help. If you see fun, unusual, locally-themed gift in an airport during your travels, please take a snap and send it along to us. If we feature your souvenir on Stuck at The Airport, we’ll send you a fun travel-themed souvenir.

Souvenir Sunday – in Vienna

It’s Souvenir Sunday, the day StuckatTheAirport.com usually looks at fun, inexpensive, locally-themed items you can buy at airports.

But..because I’ve spent the week on a river – the Danube River – on board a Viking River Cruise, this week’s souvenirs come from one of our stops.

In Vienna, the chef for the cruise toured a group of about 15 passengers through a downtown market where stalls were filled with everything from fish and wine and olives to every spice you can imagine

We got to see everything, of course, but also had an opportunity to do some tastings.

Then it was time to shop. Pretty much every stall had small and large packets of nuts, spices and dried fruit for sale. But I only found one shop that this wide and very colorful assortment of sardines – all priced at below $8.

Do you look for fun, unusual and locally-themed souvenir in your travels? If you see something great – especially at an airport – please snap a photo and send it along.

If se feature your souvenir on StuckatTheAirport.com, we’ll send you a travel-themed souvenir.

Souvenir Sunday at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport

It’s Souvenir Sunday, a day to take a look at some of the fun, inexpensive and locally-themed items you can buy at airports.

You can’t go wrong with one of these colorful souvenirs from Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. Flowers – fresh, wooden, plastic or ‘future’ (as in bags of bulbs) – all look appealing.

And none of these souvenirs is anywhere near expensive.

And then of course, there’s cheese, stroopwafels and chocolate.

Have you spotted a great souvenir at an airport? If you do see something that’s fun, locally-themed and low cost, please snap a photo and send it along to StuckatTheAirport.com.

If your souvenir is featured on Souvenir Sunday, we’ll send you a travel-themed gift.
