Congratulations to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and the PHL Food & Shops for snagging a Guinness World Record for the ‘Longest Line of Cheesesteaks’.
The iconic Philadelphia Cheesesteak, made with thinly slided ribeye steak, melted cheese and sauteed onions on a hoagie roll, is celebrated each year on March 24, National Cheesesteak Day.
This year, to mark the day, multiple PHL concessionaires worked together to make and lay out a record-setting line of 1,291 cheesesteaks in an effort to claim the world record.
The airport claims to have more restaurants serving cheesesteaks under one roof than any other single location in Philly.
The winning batch of sandwiches were made with 225 pounds of cheese sauce, 990 pounds of shaved ribeye and more than 1,200 foot-long rolls.
Once created, the cheesesteaks were layed out in a serpentine path stretching out on the concourse between Terminals B and C.
Better yet: following the official measurement and confirmation by a Guinness World Records adjudicator, cheesesteaks from the record attempt were served to passengers, participants and guests.

PHL’s record-winning cheesesteak is a first-time category creator for Guinness World Records and challengers will now have to beat this first-time effort.
We predict PHL will attempt to break its own cheesesteak record next year.
Setting a record for the Longest Line of Cheesesteaks is just one of the events taking place PHL this week as participating restaurants celebrate PHL Cheesesteak Week through March 27 with special cheesesteak-inspired dishes, exclusive meal deals and other events celebrating the city’s signature sandwich.
