IAH subway socks + the cool new Centurion Lounge at Amsterdam Schiphol

A few weeks back, we wrote about the subway Disney built for George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston.

And this week, a pair of socks created by IAH to celebrate the 45th anniversary of that airport subway system showed up in the mail at Stuck at the Airport headquarters.

The socks come to us courtesy of Kathleen Boyd, an aviation marketing consultant who once serves as the Chief Marketing Officer at IAH. She used her connections to secure our socks and a lovely color-coordinated fan from the FIFA festivities at IAH.

We’ll be adding these to the airport merch museum. Thank-you, Kathleen!

New Centurion Lounge at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport

We just missed the opening day for this one, but are looking foward to visiting the new American Express Centurion Lounge at one of our favorite airports, Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport (AMS).

This is the first Centurion Lounge in in continental Europe and Amex’s 33rd Centurion Lounge globally.

The nearly 6,000 square-foot lounge has floor to ceiling windows and takes inspiration from Dutch art, landscapes and design.

There’s locally sourced coffee and a dedicated barista, seasonal dishes inspired by Dutch and regional European flavors, and a full bar with beer and cocktails.

Dutch culture and the work of Dutch designers is everywhere, including in the painting of the American Express bulldog, which has Delft Blue plates, floral designs and silhouettes of former Dutch queens.
