Global entry reopens + new sleep rooms at MIA

Here’s good news for international travelers.

Global Entry is back in business as of this morning.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is rebooting the program that allows pre-approved travelers who pay $120 for a 5-year membership to receive expedited clearance when returning to the US.

DHS closed the fast-track program on February 22 after funding lasped due to a spending bill stalemate.

TSA Pre-Check, the expedited airport security clearance included with Global Entry has continued to stay open. Although there have been TSA staffing challenges at some airports because TSA employees are being told to work without pay during the partial government shutdown.

New short stay room inside Miami Int’l Airport

You’ve likley heard of Minute Suites, the company that rents short stay work/nap/relax rooms inside nine U.S. airports – ATL, BWI, CLT, DFW, EWR, IAH, JFK, BNA, and PHL.

Now Wait n’ Rest has opened a similiar concept in Concourse D at Miami International Airport (MIA).

Theres room are rented on an hourly rate and can be booked for one to four people and for up to eight hours at a time.

Rates start at $40 for one guest for one hour (although a test booking seemed to require a 3 hour minimum stay). Rates increase based on occupancy: ie. $55 for 2 guests, $70 for 3 guests and $45 for four guests in the room. T

The 8-hour overnight package is $200 for one guest and increases with each added guest.

Amenities include “hotel-level bedding and linen,” touchscreen entertainment and access to private showers and bathrooms. A second location on Concourse H is scheduled to open at MIA this summer.
