This week it was also announced that, starting in April, American Airlines passengers at John F. Kennedy International Airport will get to enjoy occasional live classical music performances by the New York Pops. According to a story in Crain’s New York Business:

Many of American’s domestic and international flights will feature two-hour radio broadcasts of the orchestra playing favorite New York tunes. Airline employees will be encouraged to volunteer for the Pops’ local music-education programs. And the airline will help underwrite Pops tours, something the orchestra hasn’t been able to undertake lately due to a lack of funds; one tour is tentatively planned for Florida.

Classical music is also featured regularly at other airports around the country. For example, chamber ensembles from the Memphis Symphony Orchestra perform monthly from September through May at the Memphis International Airport.

In Atlanta, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is recognizing Black History Month with a great line-up of jazz, blues and rhythm & blues performances in the Music in the Atrium series.   Concerts will be held in the Airport’s Atrium Friday evenings during February from 5 to 7 p.m.

Flashmob at Orlando Int’l Airport sings Hallelujah Chorus

Orlando’s Messiah Choral Society & Bach Festival Choir popped in to sing the Hallelujah Chorus at the Orlando International Airport on Saturday, December 18, 2010.

Earlier in the week, scenes from the Nutcracker Suite were performed by the Orlando Ballet Company.

There are 16 days of events and entertainment planned for the busy holiday travel season – including some more surprises – so be sure to look & listen when you’re making your way to or through Orlando International Airport.

Keeping the beat, today I want to draw your attention to the music line-up at Nashville International Airport (BNA).  Free live music performances are offered year-round on stages near the A/B meeter-greeter area, in the Concourse C food court (beyond security), and on the Baggage Claim Level.
