Catch these live dance performances at San Diego International Airport

If you’re traveling through the new Terminal 1 at San Diego International Airport (SAN) in the next few weeks, you may get to see a live performance by the dance troupe doing an in-terminal arts residency.

Titled “Migration: Making a Home in Transit,” the performances are part of a project the creative youth development group, A Step Beyond.

Student dancers, alumni and teaching artists from A Step Beyond have been working on this series of original dances onsite since January, 2026, with each dance drawing from the performers’ lived experiences, examining how people define “home” amid changing environments and the complex realities of everyday life.

Live performances will take place in pre- and post-security areas throughout San Diego International Airport (SAN) Terminal 1 from 4 to 7 p.m. on April 16, May 7, and May 14, 2026.

SAN’s Performing Arts Residency Program began in 2016 and offers in-the-airport space for local artists to create and present new work in an unconventional setting.

The program enriches the traveler’s experience while supporting the region’s performing arts community and is a nice win-win for the community.
