The Stuck at The Airport team is just back from a few days on the Oregon Coast exploring some of the cultural, historical and outdoor offerings of Lincoln City, which we last visited more than 20 years ago.
Our notebook is filled with hundreds of fun tidbits about the area, but here are some snaps and 5 quick reasons we’d go back in a heartbeat to this charming destination that boasts 2 annual kite festivals, 5 breweries, 30 public art installations, the World’s Shortest River and the World’s Shortest Park Trail.
Glass art and glass floats

Lincoln City has a thriving glass art community that welcomes visitors at the Lincoln City Glass Center and numerous other galleries and make-your-own studios, including Mor Art, where we made a fun piece we were proud to take home.
Better yet, Lincoln City hosts a year-round Finders Keepers glass float program that sends volunteer “Float Fairies” onto the beaches to deposit lovely handblown glass floats for beach visitors to find.
Fun shops

There are plenty of places to shop in Lincoln City, including antique malls, an outlet mall and gift stores galore.
At the lovingly restored Siletz Bay Trading Post mall, though, we spotted the delightful Fish & Clips, a family style hair salon that also sells fishing gear.

Lots of places to get outdoors

In addition to 7 miles of beaches, Lincoln City offer access to Devil’s Lake and to the D River, which at about 400 feet long (depending on the tides) claimed a Guiness World Record title for the World’s Shortest River.
Lincoln City also has has 15 parks and trails, including Schooner Creek Discovery Park, which is home to the World’s Shortest Park Trail, which is just 135 feet long.

Sweet Treats

We had great meals and brews at Hearth & Table, Pelican’s Siletz Bay Brewpub, Kyllos Seafood Grill, at the Pines Dine Food Trucks Village, at Rogue River Steak & Seafood at Chinook Winds Casino Resort and at Fathom’s at the Inn at Spanish Head.
But we also made sure to stop in to Eleanor’s Undertow, which has been a local staple since 1980 and is well-known for its ice-cream, marionberry cobbler, quarter-pound chocolate chip cookies and fun decor.
The local historical museum

Our first stop in a new town or city is usually the historical museum. And we were delighted with the offerings of the North Lincoln County Historical Museum.
In addition to exhibits on long-gone local events and attractions such as the Redhead Roundup and the Pixie Kitchen, the museum has a stellar collection of historic glass fishing floats.
