In researching an article on airports with oil and gas drilling operations on-site, I learned that Tulsa International Airport(TUL) is home to this Panorama of Petroleum mural, created by Delbert Jackson.
The mural – 13 feet tall and 56 feet wide – was once displayed at the Smithsonian Institution and portrays the operations and equipment of the petroleum industry circa 1966.
Although the airport has no oil or gas drilling operations on-site, it is located in an petroleum-rich region. So when the mural needed a new home, Tulsa International Airport was happy to make room.
Panorama of Petroleum was installed in 1998.
