Souvenir Sunday

Souvenir Sunday at Louisville International Airport

On Souvenir Sunday we like to take a look at some of the fun, inexpensive and locally-themed items you can pick up when you’re stuck at the airport.

This week’s treats come from Louisville International Airport(SDF), where we found Kentucky Bluegrass and all manner of candies made with a touch of bourbon.

Louisville is also the home of the factory that makes the Louisville slugger bats, and we found these cute little pink Louisville Slugger mitts for sale at the airport as well.

Do you poke around the shops when you’re stuck at the airport? If you find a souvenir that’s fun, offbeat and “of” the city or region you’re in, please snap a photo and send it to StuckatTheAirport.com.

If your souvenir is featured on Souvenir Sunday, we’ll send you a fun travel souvenir.

Greetings from Louisville International Airport

There are plenty of great souvenirs to buy at Kentucky’s Louisville International Airport, and I’ll share more of my finds on Snack Saturday or Souvenir Sunday.

But after a long day of flying I only have time to share this one great find.

It will become part of Stuck at the Airport’s project to document the many ways chocolate ‘poop’ is sold to souvenir-seeking travelers at airports around the world.

It’s Sunday – the day Stuck at the Airport takes a look at some of the fun, inexpensive and locally-themed items you can find at airports.

This week’s treats come from the Salt Lake City International Airport, which has recently upgraded many shops and restaurants.

Luckily, they still sell these:

Souvenir Sunday at LAX

It’s Souvenir Sunday – the day we take a look at some of the fun and inexpensive things you can buy when you’re stuck at the airport. This week’s treasures come from the new Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) at Los Angeles International Airport.

LAX TBIT CLOCK TOWER

While flights are now arriving and departing from the swanky new terminal and the duty free shops selling cosmetics and liquor are open, many other retail and dining outlets won’t open till later in October.

LAX TBIT DUTY FREE COSMETICS

One shop that is open: Sanrio Surprises. So no one has to go home without some Hello Kitty-related items.

Souvenir Sunday at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West

I had the great privilege of spending a full day going on curator-led tours through the five (yes- five!) museums that make up the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming.

In addition to seeing artifacts and ephemera relating to Annie Oakley, Buffalo Bill (a.k.a. William F. Cody) and, of all people, Amelia Earhart (more on that another day… ), I did a little Souvenir Sunday shopping in the center’s huge gift shop.

I usually look for those fun, inexpensive and locally-themed items in airport gift shops, but I found all I needed here – including some excellent additions to the ongoing collection of chocolate ‘poop’ souvenirs.

Souvenir Sunday at Australia’s Brisbane Airport

It’s Souvenir Sunday – the day we take a look at some of the fun, inexpensive and local items you can buy when you’re stuck at the airport.

This week’s items come from Australia’s Brisbane Airport, courtesy of Leonie Vandeven. Our favorite is the painted emu egg, but it’s likely the crocodile meat, emu oil and essence of kangaroo sell quite well too.

Souvenir Sunday: Spud Buddies from Boise Airport

It’s Souvenir Sunday – a day to take a look at some of the fun, inexpensive and local items you can pick up when you’re stuck at the airport.

This week we’re celebrating the fact that Spud Buddies – stuffed dolls in the shape of potatoes – are back in stock at the Boise Airport.

“They cost $8.99 each and are crazy popular!,” says Patti Miller the airport marketing director.

You can see why:

Souvenir Sunday: Free books at Sea-Tac Airport

Sunday is Souvenir Sunday here at StuckatTheAirport.com, a day to take a look at some of the fun, inexpensive and local things you can buy while you’re waiting for your flight.

At Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Saturday we spotted a few of these kiosks, sponsored by the King County Library System, and they were all stocked with – free! – books and magazines. What a great idea!
