JetBlue bringing Boyz II Men to JFK T5

JetBlueBoyzIIMen

If you’re a fan of the singing group Boyz II Men, or of the concerts JetBlue occasionally offers in Terminal 5 at John F. Kennedy airport, then plan to be flying to or through T5 on September 24 at 5 p.m. when the GRAMMY award-winning group will be performing for free.

The concert stage is located post-security, so only those with tickets will be able to attend the concert, but there’s one more way to get access:

The band is performing at the Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas after New York, and winners of a JetBlue contest for fans in New York and Boston will get travel accommodations to see Boyz II Men at T5 and then get to meet the trio and fly with them to Las Vegas to see them perform there.

Here’s the link to enter the contest if you’re in New York.

Swap a PDX memory for a PDX carpet mat

2_PDX_Foot-forward selfies with the PDX carpet are very popular at Portland Int'l Airport

Want your very own piece of the world-famous PDX carpet?

Here’s one way to get: Portland International Airport is turning 75 and is asking people to share their favorite PDX memories in a written note, video, photo, audio recording or email at PDXmoments.

Each week through Nov. 29, the airport will pick one of the stories and share it on the PDXmoments website and on social media and, if your story is selected, you’ll get a PDX Carpet mat as a prize.

At the end of the celebration, the airport will pick one special story from the bunch and award a $500 PDX air travel voucher.

I’ll start…when I first moved to Portland (waaay, back in the early 1980s) I lived not too far from the airport and there was free parking out in front. Just inside the front door: the city’s first Haagen Daz outlet. So going to the airport just for ice-cream became a regular, and very sweet, outing.

How does a free trip to Hawaii sound?

It may still be hot and summery where you are, but come winter, a trip to Hawaii will probably sound mighty nice.

Especially if it’s all-expenses-paid.

Sound good?

To celebrate the launch of Virgin America service from San Fransisco into Honolulu on November 2 and into Maui on December 3, 2015 the airline has teamed up with Airbnb for a contest with prizes that include attending the inaugural celebration with Sir Richard Branson.

Good luck!

Airline perks for Seahawks and Patriots fans

Sunday was a big day for football fans (especially fans of the Seattle Seawhawks and the New England Patriots, of course) and airlines are helping get the celebrations for Super Bowl XLIX underway.

To celebrate the Seahawks win, Alaska Airlines is offering a free drink to everyone on a flight leaving Seattle on Monday, January 19:

For those who want to make quick plans to go the game, JetBlue is adding extra flights between Boston and Phoenix. In addition to the regular schedule of flights (already sold out), JetBlue is adding a flight leaving Boston on January 30, 2015 at 8:20 a.m. (arriving at 12:24 p.m.) and returning on February 2, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. (arriving at 6:10 p.m).

Sunday evening, Alaska Airlines teased about another special Super Bowl treat:

And early Monday Alaska Airlines announced a re-run of last year’s sweepstakes offering Mileage Plan members a chance to fly from Seattle to Phoenix on a special charter on Feb. 1.

“Russell Wilson’s Fan Flight II – For Strong Against Cancer,” a four-day sweepstakes is taking place on Alaska Airlines’ Facebook page.

Fifty-six prize winners will receive two round-trip tickets for an ‘inflight tailgate party’ from Seattle to Phoenix on its “Go Russell 737-900ER” aircraft. Winners will also get two nights of hotel accommodations, admission to an exclusive game day party and transportation to and from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and their hotel.

(I was able to tag along last year and it was a heap-of-fun!)

The sweepstakes is open to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan members who are residents of Washington, Oregon and Alaska and winners will be notified by phone and email beginning on Friday, Jan. 23 at 8 a.m. PT. (Last year, winners told me they had a short window to answer the notification, so on Friday, be sure to check your email and voice mail right away.)

The airline is also adding extra flights between Seattle and Phoenix:

On Jan. 30 flights will head from Seattle to Phoenix at 1:30 p.m. and 5:55 p.m. and on February 2nd from Phoenix to Seattle at 5:55 p.m. and 10:25 p.m.

Alaska Airlines’ scavenger hunt is on

Space Needle with plane

Know Seattle?

Are you IN Seattle?

Then start following Alaska Airlines on Twitter and Instagram and get up early – before 6 a.m. on Friday, Oct 10 – and get out in the streets and see if can you be the first – or second – person to show up at any of the five locations described in the Keys to the Sky scavenger hunt clues.

The first person who shows up at one of the ‘secret’ locations and says ‘Seattle’s Airline’ will win a test drive in Alaska Airline’s Boeing 737 flight simulator and two round-trip tickets from Seattle to any of Alaska’s North American destinations, including Mexico and Hawaii. The second person to show up at each location will win a ride on a delivery flight for one of the airline’s new aircraft next year.

Go!
