Comic-con may be over, but travelers passing through San Diego International Airport have until July 31 to take a selfie with the Spider-Man inspired “canstruction” Campbell’s soup built in the SAN’s Terminal 2 Baggage Claim.

The sculpture is made out classic Campbell’s red & white cans and soon-to-be-released Special Edition Campbell’s Spider-Man Soup which will have die-cut pasta shapes including Spider-Man, his iconic emblem, and spider webs.

San Diego Airport & the Panama-California Exposition

San Diego Balboa Park

As part of San Diego’s year-long celebration for the centennial of the 1915 Panama-California Exposition, San Diego International Airport is hosting a year-long exhibition celebrating San Diego’s 1915 Panama-California Exposition.

The exhibit is airport-wide, with 30 installations, and includes original artwork and historic images, collectibles, artifacts and large-format photographs and postcards that show off the unique history, landscape and architecture of the Park.

The exhibit also includes a replica of the famous wicker “Electriquette,” which transported fairgoers at the 1915 Exposition.

Painting dancer at San Diego Airport

If you’re near San Diego International Airport mid-day on Friday, September 2, 2011, make your way to the pre-security area of International arrivals in Terminal 2 east.

From 12:45 –1:45pm there will be a live painting and dance performance called The Traveler by Silfredo La O.

Here’s a short video that shows how he does indeed create a painting with dance.

The performance includes narration by T. Ford of Black Storytellers of San Diego and accompaniment by percussionist Yiriba of Teye Sa Thiosanne of African Drum and Dance Co.

The event celebrates Arts Month San Diego and the ART SAN DIEGO Contemporary Art Fair, which begins on September 1.

Souvenir Sunday at San Diego International Airport

Last week, as part of the Arts in the Airport conference held in San Diego, I had a chance to join a formal tour of the art collection and temporary art installations at San Diego International Airport.

Along the way, I took a few moments to poke around for souvenirs to share with you for Souvenir Sunday, the day StuckatTheAirport.com features inexpensive, local and somewhat offbeat things you can buy at the airport.

I found this cute ship in a bottle –

And this sweet Padres bear –

But my favorite was this whale-shaped travel purse.  A perfect accessory for a night on the town.

Have you found a great souvenir while you were stuck at the airport? If it’s inexpensive, local and somewhat offbeat, please take a moment to snap a photo and send it it along.
If your photo is featured on StuckatTheAirport.com, you’ll receive a special travel-related souvenir of your own.
