Want two free tickets to the 2015 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival? It will help if you’re an artist.

The annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival takes place each June on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee and many event attendees make their way to and from the festival through Nashville International Airport.

To welcome everyone (and help promote the event), each year the airport features artist-made, Bonnaroo-themed artwork in five skylights on the secure side of the terminal.

Here’s a sample of the artwork from this past season on display through January 2015:

Proposals for next year’s Bonnaroo-themed skylight art will be taken through November 9, 2014.

Each selected artist will get an honorarium of $2,000 to create skylight art that incorporates or reflects iconic Bonnaroo festival elements (but not the full Bonnaroo brand logo), the festival location and the Bonnaroovian Code: Prepare Thy Self, Play as a Team, Radiate Positivity, Respect The Farm, Don’t be that Guy/Gal, and Stay True Roo.

Each selected artist also gets two free tickets to Bonnaroo 2015.

Prize patrol: Win plane tickets to South America

Thursday evening LAN airlines kicked off a campaign to promote its South American destinations in a really fun way: it surprised about 200 people dining at Nuela restaurant in New York City  with vouchers for free roundtrip tickets to destinations in Ecuador, Peru, Chile, or Argentina.

Lucky them!

And, maybe, lucky you.

Through October 31, the airline will be giving away more tickets to South America via a Twitter contest.

It’s party time at Chicago’s Midway Airport.

All week long (March 7-11) the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) will be celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Midway terminal building with discounts at the concessions, live musical entertainment and airline-sponsored raffles for free tickets.

 

Never been to Midway? It’s definitely worth a try. Although the city’s website offers scant information about the airport’s amenities, if you take a look the Midway Airport guide I created for USATODAY.com, you’ll see that the airport is home to Harry Caray’s Seventh Inning Stretch restaurant and a wide variety of temporary and permanent art and history exhibits, including The Battle of Midway Memorial, a glass mural honoring the Tuskegee Airmen and Rara Avis: a cast metal and stainless steel sculpture of a cardinal made by Ralph Helmick and Stuart Schechter.

The sculpture is made of 2,500 small cast metal sculptures of assorted aircraft and is located at the Ticketing Lobby. And, as Illinois-born Paula Kucharz (now of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport) points out, the cardinal was made the Illinois state bird back in 1929.
