Brussels Airlines contest for a new special livery

Brussels Airlines has a special livery series going featuring icons from Belgian culture.
They’ve painted Airbus A320s to honor the surrealist painter René Magritte and created a special livery to look like the shark submarine from the Tintin story, “Red Rackham’s Treasure.”

The other specially painted planes include Trident, the official plane of Belgium’s national soccer team, the Red Devils, and Amare,  dedicated to the Belgian music festival called Tomorrowland,

Now the airline is ready to create a livery for the fifth plane in the series and seeking nominations for the new theme from the public.

Anyone with an idea for which Belgium icon image should be celebrated on the next plane is invited to send in idea.

A jury of well-known Belgians will pick two finalists and then the public will get to vote on the winner. The person whose idea is chosen will get to go behind the scenes to follow the process of painting the design on the plane and get to fly on the maiden voyage of the freshly-painted aircraft sometime in March 2018.

Deadline to submit ideas is August 21, 2017. Here are more details on how to enter the Brussels Airlines contest.

Swap a PDX memory for a PDX carpet mat

2_PDX_Foot-forward selfies with the PDX carpet are very popular at Portland Int'l Airport

Want your very own piece of the world-famous PDX carpet?

Here’s one way to get: Portland International Airport is turning 75 and is asking people to share their favorite PDX memories in a written note, video, photo, audio recording or email at PDXmoments.

Each week through Nov. 29, the airport will pick one of the stories and share it on the PDXmoments website and on social media and, if your story is selected, you’ll get a PDX Carpet mat as a prize.

At the end of the celebration, the airport will pick one special story from the bunch and award a $500 PDX air travel voucher.

I’ll start…when I first moved to Portland (waaay, back in the early 1980s) I lived not too far from the airport and there was free parking out in front. Just inside the front door: the city’s first Haagen Daz outlet. So going to the airport just for ice-cream became a regular, and very sweet, outing.

How does a free trip to Hawaii sound?

It may still be hot and summery where you are, but come winter, a trip to Hawaii will probably sound mighty nice.

Especially if it’s all-expenses-paid.

Sound good?

To celebrate the launch of Virgin America service from San Fransisco into Honolulu on November 2 and into Maui on December 3, 2015 the airline has teamed up with Airbnb for a contest with prizes that include attending the inaugural celebration with Sir Richard Branson.

Details about entering are here – but the grand prize includes a seat for you and a guest on the inaugural flight from San Francisco to Honolulu (with a return flight, of course) a three-night stay at a beachfront Airbnb estate with Sir Richard as the Airbnb host on the first night, invitation to all launch celebration activities, car rental, Go Pro camera and 12 hours of lessons from a professional kiteboarder.

Deadline for entering is September 30, 2015, with the drawing taking place on October 6. If you don’t win the grand prize, don’t give up: second and third place prizes are pretty darn nice as well.

Good luck!
