Voting

Rewards for voting

Election Day is finally here, so get out there and vote.

Need a little incentive to go stand on line at the polling station? How about free stuff?

My local cupcake shop is giving voters free baby cupcakes today and my local Starbucks is participating in the nationwide promotion offering a free cup of Tall drip coffee to all voters.

Sadly, the free coffee offer doesn’t extend to Starbucks outlets in airports (or bookstores), but that’s just one more reason to vote – and grab a cup of free coffee – before you head to the airport.

It doesn’t seem like any airlines are offering freebies to voters, but a few cities are offering free bus rides.

In Austin, Capital Metro will offer free rides today and Charlottesville Transit Service (CTS) will offer free service on all CTS buses.

Need more incentive to vote? Participating Ben & Jerry scoop shops (but probably not those in airports) are giving away a free scoops of ice cream between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Many Krispy Kreme branches are offering free star-shaped doughnuts.

As outlined in this USA TODAY article, several other national brands are offering free stuff as well.

So VOTE!

Vote early – and often – at John Wayne Airport (SNA)

OK. Now that the last presidential debate is over, don’t you want to cut to the chase and just vote already?

Starting on Sunday, October 19th, you can. That is, if you’re registered to vote and traveling through John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Santa Ana, California.

The airport has teamed up with the Registrar of Voters to give travelers a head start on voting in the 2008 General Election. Voting booths will be open from Sunday, October 19th through Tuesday, October 28th from 6:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m, Monday through Saturday and from 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. on Sundays.

The voting booths will be beyond the security checkpoint, in Terminal A, (between Sunglass Hut and Caterina’s, across from Gate 9) so you can only take advantage of this service is you’re a ticketed passenger.

So Vote!

Vote and Fly at John Wayne Airport

Travelers heading out from John Wayne Airport (SNA) can be among the first to cast ballots in Orange County’s 2008 primary election. Between Sunday, May 18 and Tuesday, May 27, the Orange County Registrar of Voters will be offering early voting at the airport between 6 AM and 9 PM Monday through Saturday, and from 7 AM to 9 PM on Sundays. Voting booths will be located post-security in Terminal A, between the Sunglass Hut and Caterina’s, across from gate 9.
