Big, strong baggage handlers on duty
Posted on November 10th, 2008 by Harriet Baskas
This seems like it could be fun:
Today (Monday, Nov 10th), the largest trade union in the United Kingdom is bringing two of Britain’s strongest men, Rob Frampton and Laurence Shahlaie, to Heathrow and Manchester airports to help passengers guess the weight of their luggage.
No word on exactly how these big guys will do that. Will they lift a barbell with one hand and a suitcase in the other? Or simply lift up passengers and their suitcases?
Whatever they do, the stated point of the “Lighten Up” stunt is to remind travelers that by traveling light:
- They can avoid extra baggage fees;
- Reduce injuries to baggage handlers;
- And save the earth: lighter planes mean less fuel and that means fewer harmful carbon dioxide emissions.
