I took a pay cut a couple years ago, too, to save my job. I still haven't gotten it back. And the future is not looking great, either, with the recession and higher unemployment. Anyone negotiating for a raise is in a tough bargaining position right now, especially if you work for an airline! I definitely feel for them. Not only have AA's flight attendants (second only to the rudeness of United's FAs) repeatedly demonstrated that they could care less about the passengers, they should feel fortunate to have a job right now. I felt like telling the flight attendant some of my suggestions to making air travel a bit more pleasureable which include an improvement of disposition towards passengers. I understand flight attendants frustration to a degree, but will never figure out why they choose to engage in frivolous campaigns to bring the public into their negotiations.
